As I mentioned before, we did things a little different with our firstborn. One of those things was professional photos. We opted for professional maternity photos and took our own newborn photos. The second time around, I took my own maternity photos and we decided to get professional newborn and family photos. This time, especially since Baby E might be our last baby, I wanted to go all out, so we got professional maternity photos and newborn family photos taken by Cait & Will Photography. I couldn’t be happier with our decision!

Maternity Photos – Spring 2021
During my first maternity photo shoot, I was self conscious about how big I was since it was toward the end of pregnancy (we had to reschedule our original date due to the weather). When I got the photos back, though, I loved them and was so grateful to have them. We skipped newborn photos that time and took our own.
Next pregnancy we did the opposite: I took my own maternity photos and we got newborn & family photos professionally taken. This pregnancy, we’ve decided to go all in. We did a maternity mini shoot (Now, Tim’s new favorite thing is mini shoots if taking photos in public! haha) and are getting family photos taken after the baby is born, too–both with Cait from Cait & Will Photography.
We recently got our maternity photos back from Cait and I almost cried. I can blame it on the pregnancy hormones or the fact that these capture our little fam in the current stage we’re in perfectly …or both!
All in all, my advice to current and future pregnant mamas would be to embrace your beautiful body that’s doing an amazing and miraculous thing–growing a human. If in doubt, go for the maternity shoot AND the family shoot!
A Different, More Meaningful Mother’s Day (Mommy & Me Photos)
How I Worked Remotely —and was Still Present on Family Vacation
Here’s how I was able to work remotely and still be present on our vacation:
1. I got as much work done in advance as I could.
2. I limited my work to my full-time job.
3. I limited my photo-taking.
Christmas Photos 2018 — Sneak Peek + the Phrase I Used to Get my Toddler Excited for Photos
This year, we were fortunate to have our Christmas photos taken by my sister-in-law Ashley Bellis Photography. When she reached out about including the boys in her Christmas minis ad, I was ecstatic! The shoot went much better than I anticipated. It was pretty cold for the time of year on the day we took them but both boys cooperated so well.
R had been in and out of naps, which you can kind of tell due to his mug, but he’s flashing his gummy smile in a lot of the photos, too. S wanted to run around with his cousin but I told him “We’re taking pictures for Santa!” so that got him more excited for the photos.
It’s becoming our little tradition to take photos for our Christmas card each year and I’m enjoying it. It gives us Christmas card material but also a way of documenting that time in our lives. Here are our Fall 2017 family photos.
I’m just sharing a sneak peek and some behind-the-scenes photos for now since our Christmas cards haven’t gone out yet. Here they are:
