A Strong Mama Raising Strong Babies (Bebé Fuerte)

This post is sponsored by TOMY.

I recently started working out again postpartum and I have been feeling so much better. It’s important to move our bodies!

As a Latina mom, I want to set a good example for a healthy lifestyle for my kids, as well as pass on the Spanish language to them. That’s why I absolutely LOVE the new Bebé Fuerte toys, created by TOMY and Robin Arzón. The colorful fun toys and their bilingual messaging promote exercise while teaching Spanish phrases.

Bebé Fuerte toys inspire me and my baby girl a mover (to move) y ser fuerte (be strong), as well as learn and grow together.

Here are the toys in the line:

Strong & Sunny Clip-On

  • Features a spinning rattle center and teethable dumbbell and kettlebell
  • Reaffirming message of “strong” (in Spanish) embossed on teether

Move & Groove Crinkle Panda and Move & Groove Elephant

  • Flat animal characters with crinkle
  • Multiple textures for baby to explore

Twist & Shake Dumbbell

  • Rattle & Baby fidget toy all-in-one
  • Motivational message of “¡Sí se puede!” (Yes you can!)

Stack & Count Kettlebell

  • Kettlebell-styled stacker can be played with to learn to count or stack
  • Kids can imitate parents and “workout” when pieces are altogether

Let’s Move Giftset

Fun ways for kids to role play with their caregivers while they move themselves:

  • Rattle Water Bottle
  • Wrist-Rattle Workout Watch
  • Workout Mat with teethable kettlebell
  • Workout dice

Marathon Maze 2-in-1 Activity Mirror

2-sided play that encourages crawling

  • Side 1 – Activity mirror for tummy time
  • Side 2 – mini activity maze

Baby Girl Sprinkle

In mid-February, we hosted family and local friends for a little sprinkle at home to celebrate our baby girl on the way. Since it was just after Valentine’s Day, the theme was “She will be loved.” Indeed she will be, honestly, she already is so, so loved. Her brothers are constantly asking about her and expressing their excitement about her arrival.

I know baby sprinkles can be controversial but we have wanted to celebrate each baby of ours. For our firstborn, we had a baby shower celebration at a garden restaurant. For our second baby, also a boy, we decided to keep things simpler. We had just moved into our home, after all. So, we had a baby sprinkle and housewarming in one. For our third baby, we decided to celebrate as a combined baby sprinkle and Mother’s Day luncheon at our home.

For this baby, everyone was excited to buy baby girl clothes and gifts for us for a change, and it showed. Even though it was a “sprinkle,” we have been showered with love, support and presents. At first, I was overwhelmed (in a good way) by how many presents we received but once my cousin and I separated her clothing by sizes, it felt much more manageable and her closet is all set up. In fact, it was one of the first little projects I finished for her.

I just recently finished her nursery nook and packed our hospital bags so we are pretty ready.

Now, we just wait on her but we know for sure she will be here by next week!

Mother’s Day Tea Party Baby Sprinkle

Filed Under: baby #3, baby sprinkle, Uncategorized // February 20, 2023

I recently realized I have never shared our baby sprinkle for baby 3. It was a hit with my family, many of whom had never had a tea party. I like to try different themes and introduce new experiences so I was glad they had a great time.

We have had celebrations for each baby. We had a baby shower for our first son, followed by a house warming baby sprinkle for our second, a mother’s day tea party for our third, and a love-themed sprinkle for our fourth and final baby.

Here are some photos of our tea party baby sprinkle:

Pregnancy 4 Third Trimester Update

Physical vs. Emotional Feelings

I have to admit – while this pregnancy has been perhaps my emotionally toughest at times (I have bouts of feeling down though luckily I haven’t had any long stretches of those feelings since the first trimester), I have felt the most emotionally prepared and physically okay (despite already weighing much more than I’d like to and being sick quite a few times). We are so excited and looking forward to our daughter’s arrival but first we have a bit to do: design her nursery nook; prepare work-wise for maternity leave; and pack for the hospital!

Subchorionic Hematoma

Early on in my pregnancy, I was informed I had a Subchorionic Hematoma (a blood clot that forms between the placenta and the wall of the uterus). Apparently, it is very common but, of course, I was a bit concerned. It did help to calm my nerves to learn that mine was small and I never had any bleeding or symptoms. After my 12-week scan, I was told that the hematoma had resolved, which was very happy news!

Glucose Test

I PASSED the one-hour glucose test! I am so happy I did … I was a bit worried because I am quite heavier than I’d like to be at this stage in the pregnancy and because I’ve failed the one-hour for two of my pregnancies (first and third). It is definitely a big relief!

Baby’s Sex

I did not even realize I never posted about how we revealed the baby’s sex to the boys, our families and friends! If you follow me on social media, you likely know what we’re having but just in case not… baby is a GIRL! We received NIPT lab work results at 11 weeks with the news but waited until ultrasound confirmation at 17 weeks to share. I have also asked at each ultrasound and will be asking at birth lol

Birth Plan

This being my fourth pregnancy, “birth plan” has taken on a much different meaning for me because not much in my previous births went as planned. I went into this pregnancy being the most accepting of a repeat c-section and I hope that will calm any anxiety I have leading up to it. I intend to ask for my husband and the baby to stay in the operating room with me the whole time. If the baby has a minor issue, like Emilio did with low glucose (so he and Tim left the OR and E was fed formula soon after birth [with my permission]), I will ask if they can just resolve it in the OR though I’m not sure that’s possible. We will limit visitors at first, and also ask them to wear masks since she is a spring and middle-of-school-year baby, which I am already a bit nervous about but hoping by then we’ll be over sick season (fingers crossed!!!). I will probably just stay home for the first few weeks/months and then be ready for all the summer fun.

Baby Sprinkle

We recently celebrated baby girl with a little sprinkle. At first, I did not really want a celebration. I have been tired and sick, and we have quite a bit going on behind-the-scenes. But I am so glad I listened to my husband and family and celebrated this special time. After all, we have celebrated each pregnancy so it was only right to do so for our first girl.

All in all, I am feeling great and looking forward to enjoying this final trimester and pregnancy as much as possible. To be honest, though, I am ready to meet our baby and say bye bye to pregnancy forever! Most of all, I am just so grateful to my body and hope birth will go safely and that the baby will be healthy. Just a few more weeks now!

How We Knew We Wanted Another Child

A few months ago, during the summer when we were deciding whether to try for one more baby, I posed the questions: How do you *know* when you are ready to close the chapter of growing your family?  Was it up to you or a medical condition? Was it your and/or your partner’s primary desire? My husband and I knew we wanted another child for a few reasons.

It is such a big, sometimes bittersweet, decision.

The decision process of whether to have more children looks different for everyone.

Boy or girl, we knew this would be our last baby… But how did I know I was not done having kids?

Well, for starters, I have always wanted two or four kids, more-so the latter. My husband wanted three kids but was open to four.

Then, one day a few months ago, I looked around to account for our kids, and I thought one was missing… but I was not yet even pregnant. In my heart, I knew I was longing for our 4th baby and that it was meant to be for our family. After discussing with my husband, we knew we wanted another child.

The biggest reason it felt okay was because I didn’t feel like we’d reached our complete capacity. While motherhood is sometimes hard, it’s also amazing. Our careers are successfully growing, and we do not feel as if we are stretched too thin. Tim and I are both very hands on and involved, and my family is nearby so whenever he or I do feel burnt out or overwhelmed, we are able to have help. (To be honest, just knowing we have a village helps and is something I try to really appreciate.)

Health-wise, since I have had c-sections, I voiced my desire to have a fourth baby during my last pregnancy. I was told to check-in with the OB surgeon during my C-section to get the OK. The surgeon had to make sure my scar tissue was not excessive, and informed me it would be safe to have a fourth C-section.

That being said, having a fourth child will definitely be an adventure and while we are a bit nervous, we are even more excited!

How’d you know whether or not you wanted more kids?

*Sending love to everyone wondering, wishing, waiting, expecting, or done.*
