Be Kind

A couple of weeks ago, my husband texted me to let me know these two things happened at the playground:
  • A little boy growled at our son and our son walked away and almost cried.
  • A little girl commented, "That's his name? I don't like that name."

The phrase "Kids say [and do] the darnedest things" came to mind. Because they're just little kids, right?

Truthfully, my heart kind of sank. I felt bad for my kiddo but I know this might only be the beginning. He is only one-year-old. (Thankfully, this means he didn't understand what was said.) He might will probably encounter more mean comments and unfriendly actions.

This was a reminder to me that I have never liked bullying, not when I was younger and especially not now as a parent. I mean, who does?

I don't know... I guess I was just hoping this stuff would never happen. Or would happen later. They're not big deals, really. But it stinks. Maybe I'm being oversensitive...who's to say.

I just want to leave you with this:

Be kind. On the playground. Off the playground. At work. Outside of work. In your car. Our of your car. With loved ones. And with strangers. Practice kindness as much and as often as you can. And teach your child(ren) to do the same. It matters. A little kindness can go a long way.

  1. It really is sad how mean people can be, especially kids.
